Dispatchers say at 4:20 Monday morning a car struck the horse first, but it was just a glancing blow and the horse was okay. But 10 minutes later an ambulance carrying a patient struck the horse a second time.
The horse had injuries that required animal control officials to euthanize it at the scene.
The ambulance was seriously damaged, but the patient and crew were not harmed. The patient had to be transferred to a second ambulance.
