Frank Danari Gomez, 26, a Guatemala native, walked to the water with his 4-year-old daughter at the Foxtail Flat area of Oak Shores on the west side of the lake at about 4:20 p.m., sheriff's Capt. Tracey Stuart said.
A short time later, family members saw him struggling about 20-25 feet from the shore in an area where the water is about 15 feet deep, Stuart said.
Gomez's daughter, who was wearing a life jacket, was rescued by family members but Gomez disappeared under water, Stuart said.
Someone in the group of 20 people pulled Gomez's body from the water and emergency personnel unsuccessfully tried to revive him but he was pronounced dead at 5 p.m., Stuart said.
An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
