The man at the center of a real estate fraud scheme that ruined the credit of dozens of Bay Area investors has been arrested.

A team of FBI agents, sheriff's deputies and local police arrested James McConville near Bakersfield last Friday.

He has been on the run since a federal grand jury indicted him and five others for mail and wire fraud last month. He made his first appearance before a federal court in Fresno Thursday. The US attorney told the judge that McConville posed a flight risk. He was remanded in custody without bail.
