Mehserle found guilty of involuntary manslaughter

LOS ANGELES

The jury begain deliberations Thursday around 8:30 a.m. They broke for a one-hour lunch just after noon. Around 2:10 p.m. they informed the court they had reached a verdict. The deliberations with the most recent jury panel totaled only seven hours over two days.

The jury posed another question to the judge Thursday asking for the definition of Penal Code 12022.5 which has to do with the use of a firearm during a crime.

Judge Robert Perry ruled on June 30 that jurors would not be able to consider convicting Mehserle of first-degree murder.

The trial was moved to Los Angeles because of publicity in the Bay Area.
