Student driver hits 6 pedestrians in crosswalk

LIVERMORE, CA

At about 7:55 p.m., officers responded to multiple reports of a vehicle that had struck several pedestrians at the intersection of Vallecitos and Wetmore roads.

Officers found that a 20-year-old woman driving a Honda Civic had been traveling west on Wetmore Road and was making a left turn onto Vallecitos Road when she struck the six adults in the crosswalk.

One pedestrian was airlifted to John Muir Hospital, two others were transported by ambulance to Eden Medical Center and the remaining three pedestrians received minor injuries. All of the victims are expected to survive, police said.

The driver, Farhat Mohammad of Livermore, was learning to drive, had a valid permit and was accompanied by a licensed driver, according to police.

The resulting investigation caused a portion of Holmes Street, which becomes Vallecitos Road at Wetmore Road, to be closed for approximately three hours.

Police are still investigating the incident and ask witnesses to contact Officer Dave Boyes at (925) 371-4850.
