Report finds SJ schools lack fire safeguards

SAN JOSE, CA

ABC7 media partner the Mercury News reports it is unclear why there was a delay In the massive fire at Trace Elementary earlier this month.

An analysis, by the paper finds the San Jose Unified School District has only the minimum safeguards at many of its schools. Among the findings is that 20 of the district's 43 schools have fire alarms that ring but do not alert the fire department.

Only three of the schools have fully-automated detection systems and most of the schools including Trace Elementary do not have fire sprinklers in classrooms.
