The fire was reported in the 2500 block of California Street, the dispatcher said.
The fire started around 5:50 p.m. and damaged two buildings. At least one of those buildings was a residential building with several units.
Five units were damaged by the fire, displacing five residents. Three of those residents found housing on their own and the American Red Cross placed the other two in local hotels.
One firefighter was treated for minor injuries but there were no other injuries reported.
There is no estimate of the damages yet.
