Mildred Lane counted at least 13 bullet holes in her apartment. Her home is directly behind the apartment authorities say was the focus of the attack.
Investigators aren't sure if the gunman shot from the street or from inside the apartment complex. Either way, bullets flew into the apartment, shattering the patio door. Lynette Mwanyoka, 27, was found dead inside the apartment. Another woman was found outside wounded by gunfire.
Lane was asleep when the bullets started to fly.
"All of a sudden, you heard boom! I didn't have any lights on or nothing on," she said. "I heard all of this noise and I jumped up. It scared me to death."
The victim who survived was treated a hospital and released.
