Oakland police breakup large scale pot operation

OAKLAND, CA

At about 12:45 a.m., police received a call of a burglary in progress at 1221 E. 12th St., police Officer Jeff Thomason said.

Police responded and arrested two men, ages 18 and 22, Thomason said. Their names were not immediately released, he said.

During a subsequent search of the place the men were trying to burglarize, a second-story property above a restaurant, police found 600 marijuana plants and an elaborate growing system, according to Thomason.

The marijuana seized by police is worth about a quarter-million dollars, he said.

Police were working this morning to locate the owner of the property, Thomason said.
