Survey: 60 percent of pet owners drive distracted

A new AAA survey shows that nearly 60 percent of dog owners have driven while distracted by their pets. In sudden stops, unrestrained pets can land in their owners' lap and make them crash.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals suggests drivers restrain their pets, but only 17 percent ever use restraints.

Also, dogs should never ride in the front passenger seat because air bags could hurt them.
