Little League temporarily bans metal bats

Little League baseball announced Wednesday it is placing a moratorium on the use of composite bats for players 13 years of age and older.

The moratorium is similar to one put in place recently by the National Federation of High School Associations.

Concern over the use of the bats made headlines last spring when a high school pitcher from Marin County suffered serious injuries after being hit by a line drive off a composite bat.

Tests show balls hit by composite bats travel faster than bats made of alloy or wood.
