Report: Muni collision rate has been rising

A new report says the collision rate for San Francisco Muni vehicles has been rising, and the agency is not meeting its own safety goals.

Two Muni buses were involved in an accident just last month in Chinatown.

From April through June, Muni vehicles had a rate of about six accidents for every 100,000 miles.

That's a 6 percent increase from the previous quarter, and a 27 percent increase from the final quarter of last year.

It's also the first time since last year that the accident rate has exceeded Muni's benchmark for collisions.
