She also served as a Trustee and the President of the Redwood City Elementary School District Board. She is the Chair of the Utilities Committee for the City of Redwood City and also serves on many of the City's and County boards and committees. Alicia has been very active on various local, community and statewide boards. She was recently elected to the Executive Board of the Latino Caucus of the League of California Cities, and the At-Large member to the Peninsula Division of League of California Cities. She is Co-Chair of the Latino Leadership Council of San Mateo. She was inducted into the Redwood City San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame in 2005.
Alicia is also a professor at Cañada College. She has been there for 22 years and is teaching in the English Institute and the Spanish Department. She holds an M.A. from Eastern Michigan University and has done Doctoral studies in Social Anthropology at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. She was a Fulbright Exchange Professor in Argentina.
