SF supervisor president wants quieter tour buses

SAN FRANCISCO

Board of Supervisors President David Chiu has asked the city attorney to draft new rules regulating tour buses.

He wants to restrict loudspeakers used by tour guides to announce the sights they're passing.

Some residents hate the loud commentary coming from open-air sightseeing buses.

Chiu also wants penalties for buses that idle too long or block traffic.

New York City passed a similar law in May that requires passengers be offered headphones.
