It would provide real time information on cost, distance and travel estimates for all forms of transportation.
The app would help people see when the next taxi would be and how much it would cost, or how long it would take to drive somewhere and where there was parking.
Muni officials are talking to several private technology companies to design the app.
They hope to have it available next year.
