The city says it cost $18,200 to escort the 49ers from their training facility to games in San Francisco and Oakland between 2007 to the present.
Last month, a group that opposes the 49ers stadium project accused the city of raiding the general fund to pay for them.
The group, Santa Clara Plays Fair, now questions whether the $18,000 figure is accurate. Both the 49ers and Santa Clara leaders say the team fully intends to re-pay the costs of the police escorts.
