Cardpool.com buys and sells gift cards online and says this year's most popular cards in California will be, in order:

  1. Target
  2. Home Depot
  3. Tiffany & Co.
  4. Macy's
  5. Walmart

Consumer psychologist, Kit Yarrow, says gift cards are popular because they give the gift of shopping as well as the actual dollar amount.
