The city of Santa Clara is billing the 49ers more than $18,000 for past police escorts from the team's practice facility to the airport.

The escorts were first brought to light by a group formed to oppose the now voter approved stadium construction.

Santa Clara Plays Fair objected to tax money being used for a private security service.

The city's agenda report posts online a copy of the letter billing the team for past police escorts going back to 2007. It also promises to bill for future escorts as they occur.
