A hair salon in Clayton was destroyed by a possibly suspicious fire late Thursday afternoon, a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District dispatcher said today.

The fire was reported at 4:58 p.m. Thursday at Hair By Jim, located in the 6000 block of Main Street, the dispatcher said.

Firefighters responded and saw fire coming out of the one-story building. They were able to extinguish the fire by 5:14 p.m., the dispatcher said.

The fire "could potentially be an arson" but remains under investigation, the dispatcher said. She did not know what led investigators to conclude the fire might be suspicious.

No one was injured in the blaze, she said.
