Fairfield officers to be honored for response to fire

FAIRFIELD, Calif.

The 3:30 p.m. ceremony at Fairfield City Hall will also recognize three recently hired employees, two officer reinstatements and three promotions.

Four children between the ages of 1 and 4 died in the fire, which started around 9 p.m. on April 28 at 728 Delaware St.

Fire investigators said the blaze was sparked by candles left burning on top of a television set inside the home while the children's mothers were outside.

The mothers, Latisha James, 23, and Shetarra James, 24, were charged with involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment. Their preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday morning in Solano County Superior Court in Fairfield.

Officers Derrick Fok, Craig Jiminez, Kelly Rombach and Richard Williams will receive the Distinguished Service Medal.

Officer Steven Trojanowski Jr. and Community Service Officer Edder Botello will receive an Exceptional Performance Citation.

City Hall is located at 1000 Webster St. in Fairfield.
