The Santa Clara County board of supervisors is meeting to consider slashing executive benefits and perks.

The San Jose Mercury News reports the board is also deciding if it should pay out more than $5 million in vacation time that county executives and managers have already accrued.

Currently, top level executives and managers can carry over 117 days of earned vacation. Union leaders question paying a lump sum in the middle of a budget crisis. The board needs to trim more than $1 million from the county's budget.
