Alameda firefighters were mourning one of their own Friday. Captain Scott Carnevale died on Monday of esophageal cancer. He was 42 years old.

Friday morning, Carnevale's colleagues staged a procession in his honor though the streets of Alameda. Firefighters hope the procession will bring attention to Carnevale's brave fight. It is also their contention he contracted the disease from expsoure to toxins while fighting fires.

Carnevale was a 13-year veteran of the department. He is survived by his wife and son.
