Man killed in officer-involved shooting in Oakland

Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a man dead late Saturday night, according to an Oakland police officer.

The shooting occurred at about 9:15 p.m. near the intersection of Joaquin Miller Road and Butters Drive, Oakland police Officer Patrick Woods said.

Apparently, a man was shot after assaulting an Oakland Unified School District police officer, Woods said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police recovered a handgun, which Woods said belonged to the man.

No additional information about the man or the officer was available, Woods said.
