A study in the journal Pediatrics found all children averaged eight hours sleep during the week, but obese children slept about 20 minutes less on the weekend.
Researchers have found getting less sleep is associated with changes in cholesterol and insulin levels. In addition, kids exercise less because they are tired. They believe getting catch-up sleep on the weekends is one way to help ease rising obesity rates.
