Low amount of Californians carry quake insurance

When the Loma Prieta earthquake hit in 1989 an estimated 28 to 30 percent of California homeowners had earthquake insurance.

Now according to the insurance information network of California, only about 12 percent are covered and fewer than 10 percent of businesses have the insurance.

The insurance is not cheap, but it is worth checking into since properties in many areas have become less expensive to insure in recent years.
