BART station agents need protection against increased assaults and pleaded with BART's board of directors for help.

Agents say they want their booths built with bulletproof glass. They told BART directors on Thursday the agency also needs to take a stronger stance against passengers who spit, punch or threaten them.

More than 300 agents open and close the stations each day, offering customer assistance and call for police help when needed.
