Mill Valley sisters saluted by Obama for anti-bullying message

WASHINGTON D.C.

Sarah and Emily Buder wrote a letter of support to a girl in Novato named Olivia. Olivia's classmates teased her after she suffered an epileptic seizure in class. Olivia ended up getting thousands of support letters; many of them have been compiled in a book. More than 150 students, parents, and educators took part in the day's summit.

"As parents and students, as teachers and as members of the community, we can take steps -- all of us -- to help prevent bullying and help create a climate in our schools in which all of our children can feel safe," said Obama.

The White House says one-third of the nation's students have been bullied. Bullying has gained greater attention recently, in part, because many students have been harassed through social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
