A spokesperson for Chancellor Robert Birgeneau says no announcement will come until at least Tuesday.
Last week, a group called "Save Cal Baseball" announced it raised $9 million in private funds - close to the $10 million the chancellor had said would be needed to save the sport from the budget axe.
The university says it needs to be responsible, and make sure the donation pledges are solid.
