SF committee to discuss Botanical Gardens fees

Today the San Francisco Board of Supervisors' Budget Committee will consider whether to continue charging entrance fees at the Botanical Gardens at Golden Gate Park.

The gardens has been charging a $7 fee for non-city residents for eight months now to help bridge a budget deficit. But its raised only $59,000 -- not the projected $250,000.

Opponents say the fee has resulted in a total drop in visitors. Supervisors will hear arguments today from those who want the gardens to be free for everyone and those who want to make the fees permanent.
