Survey sheds light on childhood obesity epidemic

A YMCA survey of more than 1,600 parents found most parents who think they are providing a healthy home environment really aren't. Sixty-two percent of them say their kids eat junk food one to four days week. Only 14 percent say their kids eat at least five fruits and vegetables a day and 16 percent say their children play outside daily. Federal guidelines recommend children get an hour or more of exercise a day.

Parents say it's difficult to provide a healthy lifestyle because of other distractions such as social networks, computer games, TV and cell phones.
