San Jose State is marking Earth Week by emphasizing the need for alternative transportation.

Student Spare The Air teams raced kanga balls, wheel barrows, and big wheel bikes to attract attention to the clean air message.

Event organizers are also urging bay area residents to visit to find out about car-pooling, and other environmentally friendly commute options, including new generation electric bikes.

Bay Area air quality watchdogs say transportation is responsible for more than half the region's air pollution.
