49ers launch program to honor Bay Area teachers

EAST PALO ALTO, Calif.

Representatives from the 49ers and Washington-based Symetra Financial Tuesday morning gathered at the football team's East Palo Alto academy to announce plans to bring the Symetra Heroes in the Classroom program to the Bay Area.

The program honors exceptional K-12 teachers who have shown the ability to achieve long-term success in their students' education.

The winning teachers, who can be nominated through the program's website www.symetra.com/heroes/FortyNiners, will receive $1,000 for classroom supplies and tickets to a 2011 49ers game, and will be honored on the video screen at Candlestick Park during the game.

Tuesday morning's announcement was taking place at the 49ers Academy at 2695 Fordham St.
