Luxor Cabs adds wheelchair-accessible vehicles to fleet

SAN FRANCISCO

The car uses compressed natural gas so it will get excellent mileage, and according to the manufacturer, is the first vehicle designed from the ground up for wheelchair accessibility.

A prototype was shown off Wednesday morning for senior citizens who were able get in and out using a motorized ramp. Some noticed a huge difference from the current cabs that lift them backwards onto the vehicle.

"This is the first time that I have been able to enter and exit the van facing forward, which is a safer way to exit and enter," said Bruce Oka with the SFMTA Board of Directors.

Luxor Cabs will get the first shipment of these green vehicles in September.
