Health officials say the disease is triggered when people breathe in infected steam or water vapor. It can be fatal between 5 and 30 percent of the time.
Contra Costa County averages nearly ten cases per year. Legionnaires' disease is not contagious, but similar bacteria made a Richmond Health Center worker sick in 2008.
The center remains open pending test results.
