Job fair held at Laney College in Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif.

There are about 30 employees at the event; Kaiser has about 200 openings in the East Bay and San Francisco International has about 60 openings.

Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) helped organize the event.

"Yes we are seeing some glimmers of hope, but when you look at what the unemployment rate is, first of all over 9 percent (nationally), over 11 percent in California. When you look at communities of color, African American unemployment is over 16 percent and that is recorded, we know that it is 25 to 35 percent, also Latino unemployment - it's a shame and disgrace," said Lee.

Officials at Laney College expect about 300 people. The event will go on until 3 p.m. in the gym.
