Livermore BART extension faces hurdle

Plans to extend BART's Dublin line into downtown Livermore will hit a bump next month when the Livermore city council is compelled to act on a grass roots initiative called Keep BART on 580.

The Contra Costa Times reports that a signature petition opposing a downtown Livermore BART station and another on Vasco Road has now qualified as a ballot measure.

So on June 13, the Livermore City Council will have to take one of three actions: It can adopt the measure, put it to a citywide vote or request further study on its potential impacts.

The council previously endorsed BART's downtown/Vasco plan.
