Contra Costa County fire investigators are looking into the cause of a fire that destroyed a Pittsburg home on Saturday evening.

Fire crews found the home on Valley Drive fully engulfed in flames when they arrived at the scene just after 7 p.m.

The fire destroyed severael cars in the driveway and caused some damage to a neighborhing home.

Three residents of the home were taken to a local hospital after inhaling smoke.

The Contra Costa County fire marshall says a smoke alarm alerted residents to the fire. It's believed the blaze started in the garage of the home.

At times, the fire was so intense that it sent up a large column of smoke that could be seen from more than a mile away.
