Litter in bay traced back to fast food

SAN FRANCISCO

Wrappers and cups from fast food restaurants and convenience stores are one of the largest sources of trash that end up in the San Francisco Bay according to ABC7 media partners the Bay Area News Group.

A national organization called "Clean Water Action" says wind and rain push most of the litter into storm drains and urban creeks where the current carries it into the bay.

Volunteers counted the litter at four different sites. 315 pieces were from McDonalds, 202 were from Burger King, and 194 were from 7-11.
