A man who died Monday after being run over by his own car in Antioch has been identified as 68-year-old Robert Rominger, a Contra Costa County coroner's sergeant said today.

The accident happened at about 2:20 p.m. in the 2700 block of Gentrytown Drive, Antioch police said.

Rominger's car had been parked on an incline and was in neutral when Rominger, an Antioch resident, apparently mistook the emergency brake for the hood release and released it, according to police.

He tried to stop the car as it rolled backward, but fell and was run over, police said. He was airlifted to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
