Friday, President Barack Obama urged Americans to contact members of Congress to pressure them to reach a compromise on raising the debt ceiling.
A new survey of congressional staffers by the Congressional Management Foundation asked if they found social media effective in gauging the opinions of constituents. More than two-thirds said Facebook is an important tool, 42 percent said Twitter was, and a third for YouTube.
The poll isn't scientific, but experts say members of Congress tend to be good pollsters because if they get the answers wrong, they lose their jobs.
