Man to hike Pacific Trail for Parkinson's research

BERKELEY, Calif.

Berkeley resident Sam Fox plans to run, hike and climb the 2,600 mile Pacific Crest Trail in 60 days.

The trip will start on August 25 and end in Mexico in October.

Fox's trek is part of a grassroots fundraising campaign for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

"I'm doing this in honor of my mother who suffers from Parkinson's disease," Fox, who is not related to the actor, said. "For me this is a way to show her how much I care, tell her I love her and at the same time make something of my life."

Fox hopes to raise $250,000.
