Authorities searched the grounds of Folsom Prison around 2 a.m. Thursday after a man was spotted climbing over the fence.
After several hours, a CHP helicopter spotted 48-year-old Martin Ussery laying on the ground near the prison's recycling center.
Ussery, who is on parole for burglary, told the officers he broke into the grounds to reminisce.
Prison officials searched the area to make sure Ussery was not trying to smuggle contraband into the facility.
