The shooting happened just after 9 p.m. in the 1000 block of 10th Street. Wellington was shot four times, police said.
He died at a local hospital at 12:19 a.m. Wednesday, according to the coroner's bureau.
A shooting near the West Oakland BART station in the 700 block of Mandela Parkway at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday left a man with one gunshot wound.
He was taken to the hospital in stable condition, police said.
The shootings occurred less than a mile apart.
