San Francisco police will hold a vigil Monday evening to honor an officer who was killed in the line of duty 40 years ago.

Sgt. John Young died after two men armed with shotguns burst into Ingleside Station in Balboa Park. They shot Young through a gap in the bullet proof barrier in the station's lobby.

In 2009, prosecutors dropped murder charges against three former Black panthers who'd been arrested more than three decades after young was killed.
