Oakland landlord heads to prison for attempted arson

An Oakland landlord who pleaded guilty to asking someone to burn down his bug-ridden hotel has been sentenced to prison.

Tiburon resident Richard Earl Singer, 45, will serve 27 months in prison and pay a fine of $60,000.

He admitted to trying to get someone to burn down Hotel Menlo in January.

The hotel was the subject of several stories displaying bed-ridden sheets and broken fire alarms.

After serving time for arson, Singer will also be on supervised released for three years.
