Ammiano wants babysitters treated like employees

SACRAMENTO

Ammiano has introduced a bill that affects people who hire domestic workers including babysitters who are over 18. The measure would require those workers to be paid minimum wage and overtime. It would also require a substitute babysitter. So the main babysitter can take breaks every two hours. Time cards, paychecks and workers comp would also have to be set up. The bill has already passed the Assembly and now heads to the State Senate.

The one silver lining: the bill applies only to non-family members. So getting free labor from your teenage kid is still totally fine.
