Harvard introduces improved 'food plate'

WASHINGTON

Harvard unveiled their healthy eating plate earlier this week. The plate looks similar to the one offered by the USDA.

First Lady Michelle Obama helped the USDA introduce the "My Plate" a few months ago to replace the food pyramid.

The image represents a healthy diet built on grains, vegetables, proteins and fruit. The Harvard plate is an improvement on the USDA plate in that it also offers detailed information on what to eat and what not to eat.

Harvard's plate substitutes whole grains for the federal diagram's grain section, emphasizes health fats and recommends water over milk.
