Efforts underway to control 'organic' label on strawberries

An effort is now underway to more tightly control when strawberries can be labeled as "organic." The Pesticide Action Network has sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Agriculture demanding an end to what they say are vague federal regulations.

The group claims current rules allow toxic chemicals to be used to grow strawberry plants that will eventually be labeled as organic.

The network, along with three growers, are urging the USDA to take action to support production of berries that are sustainable from start to finish.
