New legislation proposed Wednesday morning in the U.S. Senate will keep mail delivery going Monday through Saturday.
The U.S. Postal Service will tap into a nearly $7 billion overpayment to the federal retirement system to dry up its red ink.
Senators say the Postal Service needs to be fiscally sound in order to compete with new technology.
The six-day delivery proposal would also cut workers and other services. A senate panel will consider the legislation next week.
