CPUC nears decision on SmartMeter opt-out

SAN FRANCISCO

Tuesday, the California Public Utilities Commission issued a proposed decision on PG&E opt-out plan.

If commissioners vote to approve it in January consumers wishing to opt-out would be assessed an initial fee of $90. After that, there could be a monthly $15 fee.

PG&E's proposed fees, which were not adopted by the CPUC, called for an initial charge of about $270.

Customers can delay installation of a SmartMeter until the CPUC reaches a decision on PG&E's opt-out proposal by calling 877-743-7378.
